Day 03
I Cannot Come Down
“I am doing a great work, so that I can’t come down. Why should the work cease, while I leave it, and come down to you?”
Nehemiah 6:3
Reflection
Four times they summoned him to a meeting, and four times he refused to descend into it. The invitation to argue is not neutral; accepting it is how the work stops without anyone deciding to stop it.
Pray
Father, give me the discipline to leave some invitations unanswered. Keep me from mistaking a long argument for progress, and from descending to a plain where nothing gets built.
Amen.
Declare
Not every summons deserves my descent.
Today’s practice
Identify one argument you keep being invited into. Decline it today — once, briefly, without a paragraph of justification.
