A Trowel and a Sword

“Everyone with one of his hands did the work, and with the other held his weapon.”

Reflection

They did not stop building to deal with the threat, and they did not pretend the threat was imaginary. Both hands were occupied: one with vigilance, one with the work.

Pray

God, I keep swinging between denial and total defense. Teach me to hold both — a clear-eyed watch and a steady hand still building — without letting either hand drop.
