Reflection

She had rehearsed a worst case that did not arrive. Fear is a confident forecaster with a poor record, and the only way to audit it is to compare its predictions to what actually happened.

Father, I have lived through the imagined version of this a hundred times. Give me the honesty to notice how often the dreaded reception never came.
